Fucking brutal. There were always talks of it being closed down for the past 20 years or so but it was either hearsay or beat back by racers filling town meetings until the fire marshal shut it down.

RIP and thanks for the memories.

No joke I am stunned and saddened by this. So much history and now so many racers with nowhere to go. Atco and Island are around but pretty far.

Another Motorsports park down. Sad day

What is weird is that it is only dragstrip operations that are shutting down. Everything else is still a go. Makes you wonder what happened between the Napps and the NHRA.

Feeling equally gutted. Especially since the DA is so good at this track, what are they thinking?! I blame the mud runs.

Oh well, here’s to the memories.

Napps and the neighbors, maybe.

Rumor is $75 million for 15 years for Copart to lease the drag area, and it gets the neighbors off of their back re: noise and traffic.

Gutted is the word.

But the other activities (drifting in particular) create noise, smoke, and traffic.

This reminds me of what happened years ago to Connecticut Dragway, which is now where Consumer Reports tests their cars.

I think drag racing really takes the cake regarding noise. NHRA or otherwise.

Oh, and I have a feeling the rest of the stuff won’t last long. I give it this year until it’s done.

The reality is, it’s not a dispute with the NHRA. Atco is not NHRA, and theyre quite popular, I have been down. I think Island is NHRA, but also very popular.

The problem with Englishtown is that theyre close to residential. Atco is in the boonies, Island is in the boonies...

Its sad, and means I dont have much reason to go back. Many events will suffer, Bimmerfest, and others. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. Soon they’ll become a ghost town, as I really doubt the drifting and motocross is enough to keep them above water.

He *might* have a case, in that Atco and Island may follow NHRA rules but neither host national events and neither have (rather...had...ouch) the level of overhead.

The NHRA event at E-town brought in a lot of money in past years and maybe wasn’t bringing in as much now. Some neighbors hated it, but now they can join the rest of the faceless towns in NJ that used to have something cool. Enjoy your Toll brothers development, Chili’s, and T-mobile store. Because let’s be real- the other types of events at the place are on borrowed time in the best of scenarios.

Always sad to lose a racetrack. I haven’t followed drag racing in years, but it’s still surprising to hear a place that hosts (or hosted?) national events is closing down.

Thats nuts I recall going to raceway park for the jet car races as a child. It was funny though that I was WAY more interested in the crazy people that showed up to drag race their dodge caravans, hitting a speed of about 80 at the end of the 1/4 mile lol. I’m not into drag racing but it was a cool introduction to fast cars as a child.

Not surprised its shut down though, considering how many houses are built so close to the track. I imagine those people had some influence on getting the place closed. Even though they are keeping other events going, I imagine drag racing was the loudest and most frequent event, especially at night.

Club loose seems to be pretty popular there but it definitely doesnt bring in nearly the same crowds as the drag racing. But the people that participate are definitely much more cancerous lol. I could see that getting kicked out too though for the same reason. I recall driving through that area and seeing the houses within like a half of a mile or less of the track. Those people should just move if they have an issue with it but fuckers are entitled and shit.

They shut down Englishtown? WTF?

Pulling up from the staging lanes to the tree on test and tune nights, under the bright lights with thousands in the stands and the announcer yammering away, was one of the most epic feeling experiences of my life.

Sad!
